After the cast comes off the arm or wrist is usually stiff and weak — this is normal and needs gentle exercises or physiotherapy; don't expect full strength the moment the cast is removed. General information, not medical advice.

Most arm and wrist fractures heal in a cast in about 6–8 weeks, and a wrist cast often comes off around 6 weeks — generally quicker than a broken leg because the arm does not bear your weight. Regaining full strength and movement takes longer: commonly around 3 months to return to normal activities.

More details

Stiffness and full recovery can sometimes last up to a year, especially after a more complex fracture.
