How long does Botox take to work?

Estimated wait

  • Average cases
    ~5 days
  • Slower cases
    Up to 14 days
The gradual onset is normal and is not a sign the dose was too low — do not ask for a top-up before the two-week mark, as adding more too early risks overtreatment. Botox is a prescription medicine and should only be injected by a qualified practitioner. General information, not medical advice.

Botox does not work straight away. Most people notice the first changes after about 3 to 5 days, and the full effect is usually visible after 10 to 14 days — which is why review appointments are set about two weeks after treatment.

More details

Once it has settled, the effect typically lasts around 3 to 6 months before the muscle gradually regains its movement and a repeat treatment is considered.
