How long does a yeast infection last?

Estimated wait
~7 days
Based on published sources
Timeline guide
  • Faster cases
    ~6 days
  • Average cases
    ~7 days
  • Slower cases
    Up to 14 days
The "up to 6 months" figure is for recurrent thrush (4+ times a year), not a normal single episode — don't treat it as the headline. If symptoms don't improve within 7–14 days of treatment, see a doctor to rule out another cause.

With antifungal treatment, a yeast infection (thrush) usually clears within about 7 to 14 days, and milder cases often ease within a few days — the NHS says thrush "should clear up within 7 to 14 days of starting treatment". Antifungal medicine may work within 7 days, but the NHS advises continuing treatment for up to 2 weeks to stop it coming back.

More details

Untreated mild thrush can sometimes settle on its own, but treatment is usually quicker and more reliable.
