How long does Gorilla Glue take to dry?
Estimated wait
~1 hour
Based on published sources
By case
- Faster cases~1 hour
- Average cases~1 hour
- Slower casesUp to 2 hours
The 1–2 hours is clamp time, not full strength — that takes 24 hours. Polyurethane glue expands as it cures, so squeeze-out is normal and should be cut away once hard, not wiped while wet. Times assume normal room temperature; cold slows the reaction considerably.
Gorilla Glue's own instructions are clear: clamp the pieces for 1 to 2 hours, then allow 24 hours for a full cure before putting the joint under load.
More details
This is a water-activated polyurethane glue — it foams and expands as it cures, which is why clamping matters so much. Damp the surface lightly first, use less glue than feels right, and keep the clamps on for the whole hour or two, or the expansion will push the joint apart.
