How long does J-B Weld take to dry?

Estimated wait
~5 hours
Based on published sources
By case
  • Faster cases
    ~4 hours
  • Average cases
    ~5 hours
  • Slower cases
    Up to 6 hours
Check which J-B Weld you actually have — the Original and the quick-set versions differ by a factor of four. Mix the two components in equal parts and thoroughly; badly mixed epoxy stays soft permanently and no amount of extra waiting fixes it. Cold slows curing sharply.

J-B Weld Original sets in 4 to 6 hours and reaches a full, hard cure in 15 to 24 hours, according to the manufacturer. Quick-setting versions are a different product entirely: J-B Weld KwikWeld sets in about 6 minutes and cures in 4 to 6 hours.

More details

Until it is fully cured the repair should not be drilled, sanded or put under load or heat. Only after the full cure does it reach its rated tensile strength.
